Buying at auction can appear a bit scary, but the process is painless. Auctions are a great place to find that unique gift, start or enhance a collection, decorate a home, repurpose an item and just have a fun time.
For a good primer on what to expect at auction, read this Auction Finds blog post by Sherry L. Howard, who’s been attending auctions for years. Her blog offers stories on the interesting items she’s found at auction and the stories behind them.
Our new award-winning, state-of-the-art mobile app allows you to bid online on any item on our website through your phone or tablet from anywhere you can get an internet signal. Buying and bidding at Unique Vintique
We hold our regular estate-sale auctions every first and third Wednesdays of each month. We also hold special online auctions once or twice a month. Please check our website for auction dates. http://uniquevintique.com/events.
All items are available for preview on the auction floor one hour before the auction begins at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays. We urge bidders to preview items before each sale. We try to look over as many items as possible and we’ll alert you to any damages. But it’s up to the bidder to be his/her own checker. We also encourage you to bring your own boxes and containers, and wrapping materials.
How to bid
You must have a number to bid but you have to register first. You can register with the cashier by presenting your driver’s license or other official photo identification.
Gathering up your items
Once a sale is made, the item belongs to you. We encourage buyers to keep track of their items, which will be handed to them after they win a bid.
We accept absentee bids by phone or email before the auction. If you have to leave before the auction starts, you can fill out an absentee bid form. We will bid up to the maximum amount you write on the form but we won’t go beyond it.
If you bid absentee by phone, you must be available when the item comes up for bid. Please be sure to write a phone number on the bid form and to be available. It’s not always clear when an item will come to the floor for bids.
Like most auction houses, we charge a fee for the items you buy. Our buyers’ premium is 13 percent discounted to 10 percent for CASH payments. We require that you pay for your purchases on the day they are sold at auction.
You must also pay an 8 percent sales tax (6% for state of PA, 2% for Philadelphia) on purchases. Buyers who have a valid state Pennsylvania resale certificate do not have to pay the tax at the time of the auction.
You may pay with cash, debit, a major credit card, and through Paypal and Stripe. Present your auction number to the cashier who will tally up your purchases.
Warranty of items
All items are sold AS IS / WHERE IS. We do not warrant the authenticity of any item in the auction. It is up to the buyer to determine authenticity, condition and any other material facts about an item before bidding.
We ask that you take your items with you after you’ve paid for them on the day of the auction. You can pick up oversized items up to a week after a sale or pay storage fees. Those fees are $5 per day per item. Pickup times are by appointment. We are able to make other arrangements for large items such as furniture.
Our merchandise is only available for pickup. We do not ship items.
